Scottish Arts Council Young Scot Action Fund Films: ING

ING, Glasgow Danny Holcroft (23) received funding towards equipment and start-up costs for fashion label ‘ING’.

My name is Danny Holcroft and I’m 24 and l live in Glasgow. I’m an artist/designer. I’ve recently become self employed and so l make t-shirts and l produce drawings and sculptures. I have a gallery based practice.

I graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in an Environmental Art Course in 2004. Went for a couple of grants and managed to get the action fund and its been really amazing cause its just given me the chance to do projects and to do me t-shirt designs.

Working with Scottish Arts Council Young Scot Action Fund

Well we got together and so the Young Scot Action fund was available and its really quite a simple thing to fill out a form and send it in and yeh we got it which was amazing.

So we decided to launch the label ‘ING’. It was basically to produce one off limited edition t-shirt designs.

Next Steps

At the moment I’m kind of doing lots of different things. I’m taking part in an exhibition in Melbourne Australia during the Commonwealth Games.

I think the Young Scot, getting the money, was a major thing in my career because it is the money as well and you put it to good use, but its also someone else saying that you’ve got talent or you’ve got a good idea. That is amazing to think that someone else who looks at this idea on paper and says yeah go and do it, here’s a pot of cash, you go and do that is amazing. It sets you on the career path. It sets you going to going, to really make a full profession out of it.

Young Scot gratefully acknowledges the support of the Scottish Arts Council and all the young people that helped make this film.
