Street Level Photoworks is a visual arts organisation that provides artists and the general public with the opportunity to produce and participate in photography and lens-based media. It aims to make artistic production accessible, both physically and intellectually, to a wide audience. Recognised for its integrated practice, the organisation promotes the work of artists through exhibitions, commissions, residencies, and publications; an education programme; community collaborations; open access facilities and training courses for the public.
SNAP (Street Level New Audiences Programme) is a framework for audience development activity, which will broaden the range of people who appreciate, create and take part in photography. It will enhance interpretation, by providing access to a ‘shopping list’ of activities, which potential audiences can use as a pathway to Street Level Photoworks and the visual arts in general.
- To provide wider opportunity for under-represented audiences to take part in photography
- To provide a pathway between excluded communities and the visual arts in general
- To perpetuate the dynamic culture of Scottish photography
At Street Level Photoworks we want as many people as possible to enjoy making, learning about and appreciating photographs.
To ensure this we have developed an exciting project, SNAP.
What is it?
SNAP provides community groups and schools with a ‘shopping list’ of photography activities to chose from, such as:
- Camera-less photography
- Portraiture workshop
- Introduction to digital photography
- Band or Fashion Photoshoot master class
- Pictures from the past - looking and remembering
We will be launching more digital and darkroom options in early 2010!
How does it work?
These activities are delivered across 2 sessions. The first session takes place in your venue or at a location in your area and the second session happens in our brand new gallery in Trongate 103.
Participants can engage in these hands-on, informative and fun sessions that broaden their understanding of photography but also offers a pathway to the wider visual arts in the city.
The project is ongoing.
