Important: Please read the information below before downloading forms and guidelines.

Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Awards
Professional Development

Fast-track = Fast-track for applications (accepted throughout the year).

Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Awards

The Scottish Arts Council Creative Scotland Awards - funded through the National Lottery - support Scotland's leading artists working in any artform. The awards provide a unique opportunity for artists to experiment and realise imaginative ideas in a major project.

The Scottish Arts Council is currently reviewing the scope and opportunities offered by the Creative Scotland Awards in their present format, in order to build on their existing success, widen the range of potential applicants, as well as developing stronger links with successful applicants.  Although this review is not yet complete, we anticipate that the Creative Scotland Awards will be suspended during the year 2007-08, but will be relaunched during 2008.  More information on the revised awards and application process will be published on our website and through the IB before Summer 2008.

Please see the Creative Scotland Awards website for updates and examples of successful projects.

Fast-track Professional development

This fund offers assistance for individual artists in most artforms* to undertake professional development activities relevant to their artistic practice, with priority being given to proposals which will lead to enhanced performance and creative skills.  We also support arts practitioners working at a professional level within the arts in Scotland, and their role in the development of the sector.

Funding is available for:

  • short-term or one-off training courses
  • workshops
  • conference fees
  • master-classes
  • mentoring
  • other experiences which lead to improved professional skills
  • travel to see work
  • undertaking research
  • establishing contacts and partnerships
  • exploring opportunities for future projects
  • where an international partnership is being developed with a benefit in Scotland, a Scottish based organisation may apply for support for an individual to visit Scotland.

Minimum £75 – maximum £2,000

Please note:

* For individual visual artists -  support is now available through the Creative and Professional Development fund

For representatives of visual art organisations - support for professional development will be mainly made available through strategic programmes, to be developed throughout the year.  For further information please contact the Visual Arts Department

The exception to this is the availability of professional development funding for curators through our Creative and Professional Development Fund for individuals - please see our Individuals: Application Guidelines 2008/09 for details.
