What you can apply for

In April 2006, we concluded the strategic review of our investment, which looked at aligning our resources more closely to our corporate aims. As a result of this, we have changed the way we invest in artists and arts organisations. The changes place a sharper focus on the needs of artists; ensure a healthy, sustainable arts sector; and reinforce our commitment to improving the opportunities for people who wish to participate in the arts. This is reflected in our new priorities, outlined below.

In addition, we established a group of Foundation Organisations, which, with additional investment, we aim to place on a more sustainable footing. We have also established a pool of flexible funding, to allow opportunities to support the new and the innovative.

The 2007/08 Guide to Funds sees the introduction of our new priorities:
• increase the scope and quality of our support to artists
• secure the foundation of Scotland’s artistic development
• create flexibility to support the new and the innovative
• create opportunities for participation in the arts
• build a culture of co-operation with partners and the arts community
• this will also include our internal priority of making the transition to Creative Scotland.

The new priorities are reflected in how we will use our funds over the coming year. For example, to support our priority of increasing support to artists and creating flexibility to support the new and the innovative, we have introduced new funds to support a choreographic fellowship, and further new initiatives will be launched during the course of the year. Support for our Foundation Organisations will include our aim of creating more opportunities for participation in the arts.

We are taking the opportunity to consolidate some of our lottery funding, in tandem with a period of consultation, with a view to introducing further funding opportunities during 2007-08. In the meantime, our National Lottery funding will concentrate on Awards for All, public art and small capital projects for equipment and local facilities. Details of other new funds which are currently being developed will be published here as they become available, but if you have any queries on guidelines for available funds in the meantime, please contact our Help Desk

Please note:
The Scottish Arts Council will not normally fund productions through project funding that are programmed to appear at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival or Edinburgh International Festival only.  Tours which include these festivals are eligible but the festival appearances must be part of a larger Scottish tour.  The majority of performances must happen outside of the festivals.

For exceptions to this, please refer to individuals and organisations guidelines.
