December / January 2007 North Ayrshire Council - Sound Start Primary schools in North Ayrshire create whole-class bands with this innovative programme

November 2007 Glasgow City Council - How to Create an Avitar 56 pupils work with Scottish Youth Theatre to create their own piece of musical theatre.

YMI Project - June/July 2007: Midlothian Council - African drumming The 'Release the Rhythm' project run by Infectious Grooves in primary schools.

YMI Project - May 2007: East Ayrshire Council - The Jolly Beggars Primary pupils from Scotland and Northern Ireland join for a performance.

YMI project - March 2007: Feis Rois - Traditional Musicians in Schools Traditional musicians visit primary schools all over Scotland to introduce children to traditional music, song and dance.

Informal sector

Activities delivered by independent and national music/arts organisations outside school time in learning environments that are not school-based such as youth clubs or arts centres.

Demo Fund In 2008 the Scottish Arts Council Youth Music Initiative launched a pilot scheme, called Demo Fund as part of the Independent Music Making Initiative, to support young people who are making music independently.

July 2008 Thick-Skinned Productions Two very different small-scale projects: an opportunity to experience the music industry and record in a professional studio, and a focus on developing skills in jazz composition and improvisation.

May/June 2008 Scottish Music Centre - Phonik Scottish Music Centre's first programme of comtemporary music teaching based round technology, including sessions on DJing skills, lyric writing and an introduction to production techniques.

April/May 2008 Soma Skool A leading concert promoter and one of Scotland’s top dance labels have been developing opportunities for young people to perform and learn about the workings of the music industry…

February/March 2008 Aberdeen Foyer Young people in Ellon get the chance to learn instruments, form bands and record their own music

December / January 2007 Young Musicians Hebrides - Ciste Ciuil A project with pre-school children in Gaelic nurseries on Lewis and Harris

YMI Project - October 2007 Playback Project young people with disabilities compose and record a cd to celebrate Drake Music Scotland and the Playback Trust's tenth anniversaries
