PET 05 Paragon Ensemble

The Paragon Ensemble has launched PET 05 - a new online interactive commissions project. Launched on 22 November 2005 in the CCA, the PET project is part of Paragon’s 25th Anniversary Season and aims to give audience members a chance to try their hand at creating electronic music online.

Composers Nick Fells and J. Simon van der Walt, and software artists Retina Burn Graphics and Colin Law have created two online interactive commissions. These commissions allow the user to navigate around image-based platforms selecting sounds from a palette of different timbres created by the composers. Van der Walt’s piece codifies text patterns into sounds and is called 'Talking Glitch Machine'. Fells’ piece allows the user to select sounds and place them into ‘music machines’ which appear almost at random enabling you to have a more improvisational composition.
If you log on to www.paragon-ensemble.com and click on ‘PET’, you will find a choice of three Paragon online commissions: PET_00 (2004); PET_01 (2005); PET_02 (2005). Each commission allows you to create and store your own piece in Paragon’s online vault.
