As the 2005/06 season begins, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) is delighted to welcome its new Music Director Stéphane Denève to Glasgow.

Widely recognised for his remarkable talent, Denève has made a great impression on the international music scene in recent years. He's thrilled audiences around the world with his passionate interpretations and his strong personal identification. |
He's conducted a huge range of works from the orchestral, choral and operatic repertoire.
Since the announcement of his appointment in August 2004 Denève has been busy guest conducting around the world, including his successful debut at the Royal Opera House in London. He has also recently conducted in Los Angeles.

For his first season, Denève has planned a broad and eclectic range of music. The season will reflect both his various tastes and his desire to appeal to the broadest spectrum of audiences. |
Denève's season-opening programme includes:
- a new work by young French composer Guillaume Connesson called 'Une lueur dans l'age sombre,' commissioned by the RSNO
- Ravel's 2nd Suite from Daphnis et Chloé
- Beethoven's Symphony No9 Choral
The opening concert takes place at the Caird Hall in Dundee on Wednesday 28 September. The RSNO then visit:
Subsequent programmes will include music by:
- Grieg
- MacMillan
- Mahler
- Mendelssohn
- Roussel
- Sibelius and many others
