Unusual Suspects

Put together by harpist and singer Corrina Hewat, the Unusual Suspects blend voice, fiddles, pipes, brass, harp, piano and drums into an extraordinary sound in a celebration of the best of Scottish traditional music. Their arrangements are always harmonious, and dance between full-throttled rampage and orchestrated finesse.

The line-up includes:

  • ten fiddlers
  • seven singers
  • three pipers
  • three accordionists
  • harpists and percussionists
  • piano, guitar, bouzouki, bass and brass

The current band features musicians from major Scottish groups such as David Milligan, Colin Steele, Fraser Fifield, Aidan O'Rourke, Catriona McDonald and Eilidh Shaw.

Tune Up tour

The Unusual Suspects were on the road again in October and November 2005 after being awarded a National Lottery funded Tune Up tour.  The tour saw the amazing 22-piece ensemble visit venues across Scotland from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull to the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries.

Live in Scotland

The bands album 'Live in Scotland' was recorded at Eden Court Theatre in Invernesss and the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh.  In a review of the groups live perfomance The Herald said...

'What a beautiful noise.  All it needs now is an excuse to do this all over again - as often and in as many places as possible.'

The 2004 tour was a great success including an amazing opening performance at Radio 2's Folk Awards 2004.  The CD 'Live in Scotland' features performances from that tour - fiddles and pipes allied to trumpets, trombone and saxophone and a repertoire which is both traditional and contemporary.

To listen to clips of the recording and to buy the CD have a look at the Footstompin website.  For more information on the band have a look at the Unusual Suspects website.
