In 1998, Matilda received her BA Hons in Performing Arts and Composition at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.  She began writing and arranging orchestral music for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble 10:10, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Mostar Sinfonieta and William Gregory of Goldfrapp.  After her MMus in composition, Matilda began to collaborate in larger multi-media projects, such as a music, painting and video project with Mr McFall’s Chamber, who performed and broadcast her music on BBC Radio 3.

Matilda was Composer in Residence at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, where she composed the score for such productions as Blood Wedding.  She also worked with the National Theatre of Scotland and TAG Theatre Company in their 2006 co-production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, and has recently worked with Clwyd Theatr Cymru and their Director of New Writing, Phillip Breen, in Tennessee Williams' Suddenly Last Summer and Meredydd Barker's newly commissioned Two Princes.

Matilda is now writing more contemporary jazz music and recently collaborated with renowned Norwegian jazz composer and saxophonist, Karl Seglem.  On 16 November 2007, her new SPNM-commissioned work will be performed at the Vortex Jazz Club as part of the London Jazz Festival, by the Partisans, with saxophonist Julian Siegel.

London Jazz Festival

The annual London Jazz Festival takes place from 16-25 November 2007.  Run by music promoters Serious, it is the UK's largest annual celebration of jazz and features some of the biggest names in UK and international jazz.

The Scottish Arts Council is supporting a showcase of Scottish jazz talent in North of the Border on 25 November at 2:30pm, at the Barbican.  The Kevin MacKenzie Quartet, Dave Milligan Trio and Paul Towndrow Quartet will perform at the gig.
