Aberfeldy
Background Tune Up tour
Indie pop band Aberfeldy tour Scotland in April and May as part of the Tune Up programme.
The five-piece band from Edinburgh formed in 2002 and have a solid reputation performing at UK and international music festivals. The group consists of Riley Briggs (songwriting, vocals, guitar, keyboards), Murray Briggs (drums), Ruth Barrie (keyboards, vocals, glockenspiel), Sarah McFadyen (fiddle, vocals, mandolin, banjo, glockenspiel) and Ken McIntosh (bass).
Their first single, Vegetarian Restaurant, was released in June 2004, followed by the album Young Forever, which was recorded around a single microphone. That year and the following were spent touring throughout the UK. Aberfeldy supported R.E.M. at Loch Lomond, Blondie and the Scissor Sisters at Edinburgh’s 2004 Hogmanay celebrations, The Magic Band at The Arches, and in 2005 appeared at Belladrum, T in the Park and Greenman festivals. They have twice performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and followed those appearances up with gigs in Kansas City and New York.
2006 began with Aberfeldy recording their second album, Do Whatever Turns You On, produced by Calum Malcolm.
Aberfeldy began 2007 with a headline gig at Celtic Connections, followed by two gigs in Copenhagen. They will be touring throughout Scotland in April and May this year. Songs from both of their albums have been used in film soundtracks, commercials in Argentina, the USA and Canada.
