Overview Aims Impact
South Lanarkshire Council cultural co-ordinators team recently piloted a ‘Ghostwriter’ project.

A group of 30 primary school children participated in creative writing and drama workshops in partnership with TAG Theatre Company. The six week project involved a group of p5 pupils from Glenlee Primary School in Hamilton working with specialist drama workers and writers. |
The theme for the project was the transition from an old school to a new building, with the focus on the pupils' feelings surrounding the move. At the end of the project, the pupils’ work was compiled into a 100 page story book. The school and each of the children involved was presented with a finished copy to keep.

The project was designed to compliment existing English classes. The workshops were devised and delivered in partnership with the class teacher.
| To support the delivery of the project, Continuing Professional Development twilight sessions were delivered to all the staff in the school. As well as providing innovative ways of delivering English within the context of the Curriculum for Excellence, these sessions provided staff with the necessary tools to develop the project once TAG had left the school. |

| Both pupils and staff responded with enormous enthusiasm to the project and parents and members of the wider school community were invited to a celebration event to watch the pupils as they were presented with their story book. |

Councillors and Council Quality Improvement officers attended the celebrations where pupils expressed a great sense of achievement when they received the finished copies of their book.

Pupilso and staff were delighted by this unique opportunity and felt that it particularly helped pupils come to terms with the move to their new school as well as involving them as active participants in the moving process.
Staff also felt it was important that the book acted as a physical record of the transition which can be kept forever and will act as a tangible document of an important milestone in the school's history. |
