Independance – Scottish integrated dance company

Glasgow-based company INDEPEN-DANCE specialises in dance performance projects, predominately for adults with learning disabilities and their carers.

They believe that everyone should be able to participate in theatre and arts. Providing an environment which is safe and appropriate for the needs of the dancers to perform in, whilst retaining each individual's dignity and integrity. They have developed a portfolio of original performance work as well as providing training opportunities for carers, social work staff and community dancers throughout the year.

They offer performances for conferences, exhibitions and dance platforms plus work experience and student placements and are currently running a mentoring scheme for people interested in using dance with people with disabilities.

Special Olympics 2005

The Special Olympics National Summer Games 2005 will be held in Glasgow between 2 and 9 July, and is expected to attract over 2,500 participating athletes, as well as almost 1,000 coaches and 3,000 families, friends and supporters.

It’s the biggest sporting event taking place in the UK this year with teams from 19 regions competing in 23 sports.

The opening ceremony

INDEPEN-DANCE will be performing at the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony on 2 July 2005 at Celtic Park. The evening will see a host of Scottish and international dance and music acts such as Texas, Lucie Silvas, Robert Post, South Beach, and Croft No 5, Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts, Dance House, and Mischief La-bas, among others. Future Project

Four Last Songs, Glasgow

Indepen-dance company dancers; Photo: Brian Hartley In Autumn this year, INDEPEN-DANCE and Orbit of Belfast will, for the third year running, work on a production based on Richard Stauss' Four Last Songs.

With Royston Maldoom and Janice Parker, Creative Scotland Award recipient 2005, choreographing, a goal of one hundred dancers on stage and the accompaniment of the Scottish Opera this production will be one to remember.

Interested in Integrated Dance  :

INDEPEN-DANCE will be performing with Scottish Opera at Tramway, Glasgow 2 - 5 November 2005.

Also Cand-Co Dance Company will be holding a workshop and performance 14 - 15 November, at Tramway in Glasgow.
