Dudendance Theatre and Fabrik Potsdam present -

Droopy Met Hal - Innovative physical theatre and film

'Up on the hill sits an old decrepit house- inside its crumbling walls lives the elusive “Missy” with her sinister butler, the “Sticky Man”. One day a stranger knocks on their door looking for a job. The stranger turns Missy’s world upside down and reveals that things in the house are not quite as they seem. Combining slapstick and original silent film footage, this strange surreal tale is constructed using the artists’ combined fascination with vaudeville, King Kong and the acrobatic feats of Buster Keaton.'

Droopy Met Hal is the first collaboration between fabrik Potsdam, International Centre for Dance and Moving Art in Potsdam, Germany and Dudendance Theatre Scotland.  It features three times Fringe First winner Sven Till, co director of fabrik Potsdam (the team behind the award winning Edinburgh Fringe venue Aurora Nova) and Paul Rous co-director of Dudendance Theatre.  The piece is directed by Clea Wallis, co-director of Dudendance.   Dudendance is currently based in Huntly, Aberdeenshire and has been making work since 1986.   It has built a reputation, both in the UK and internationally, for being one of Scotland’s foremost experimental performance companies and has regularly staged films and live performance in venues and festivals in Germany, Belgium, Canada, Brazil, Monaco, Italy and Argentina..

The piece has been created in Germany and Scotland over the past year, with filming for the piece being shot in diverse locations such as Aberdeenshire forests and the medieval Gross Leuthen lakeside castle in Brandenburg Germany.  Droopy Met Hal was selected by fabrik Potsdam as the inaugural for company’s newly refurbished premises in Potsdam in April 2006.

….” A gorgeous hour of bizarre action, live and on screen, that melded surreal fairytale with echoes of Hollywood and the scuzzy underbelly of cabaret….so astutely grotesque, comedic and haunting you’re left longing for more”….

Mary Brennan The Herald (On the work in progress version of Droopy met Hal, Arches Live 2005)
