Citymoves is proud to announce the second Dance Live! season of dance events in Aberdeen. It features performances by eight exceptional companies during October, all presenting unique and unusual work new to Aberdeen, featuring strong music and visual elements. |
Alongside the performances is a series of open workshops for adults and children, as well as discussions and seminars for dance professionals and students. Dance Live! aims to bring exciting and new dance work to Aberdeen and to offer something for everyone.
Internationally renowned Siobhan Davies Dance makes a welcome return visit to Aberdeen presenting legendary choreographer Siobhan Davies' new work One Quartet and dance film Endangered Species at The Lemon Tree. Siobhan Davies is one of the great British choreographers of our time, whose recent work was described as "intense and intelligent, meticulous and beautiful".
Jonathan Burrows and Mattheo Fargion make their Aberdeen debut performing three of their quirky duets Both Sitting Duet, Speaking Dance and Quiet Dance at the Lemon Tree. Both Sitting Duet was winner of a 2004 New York Dance and Performance 'Bessie' Award.
Ground breaking physical theatre company Array brings the unique performance event Outre to the Cowdray Hall. Incorporating film and video they create a distinctly altered theatrical world where music hall meets end of the pier freak show in a disturbingly extraordinary piece – not to be missed!

Touchdown Dance, a unique integrated company of six visually impaired and sighted dancers, presents Closer at Citymoves. Using senses other than eyes, they take flight aiming to bring the separate closer – sharing a world where contact is the starting point of freedom and trust, where hearing, smell and the ripple of breath energise the space between bodies. |

In STILL dancer/choreographer Anna Krystek collaborates with composer Tom Murray and film-maker Lucy Cash to create a piece which exists on a fine line between performance and installation.
Citymoves dancespace has commissioned three Scottish-based companies to create new work for Dance Live! All of these combine visual, sound and dance elements in imaginative ways. Hlysnan by Tabula Rasa integrates a solo dancer within an abstract geometric installation of suspended lines and circles to create a work of delicate detail. In Carrier, Articulate Animal engages themes of transmission, mutation and metamorphosis in a collaboration between choreographer, musician and costume designer. Both Hlysnan and Carrier will be performed at Peacock Visual Arts. In an experimental new work by Edinburgh-based group the Bakers, a dance film will be shot and simultaneously screened with live music and dance.
The workshop programme includes a wide variety opportunities for all ages and abilities led by dancers and choreographers who are performing in Dance Live! - from Bodyspace, a creative workshop for children to Touchdown Dance's integrated workshop for adults with and without learning difficulties to Physical Theatre with Array's Darren Johnston. For dance students and professionals there is a choreographic residency with Siobhan Davies Dance, ballet for contemporary dancers, a training workshop with Touchdown Dance and a day conference entitled Valuing the Artist, Valuing the Work with Foundation for Community Dance and scotlandances.
