DANCE:FILM 07

29 October - 4 November 2007

Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance, and the Filmhouse Cinema in Edinburgh have come together, with the support of Scottish Screen, to bring you DANCE:FILM 07, Scotland's inaugural Dance Film Festival.

DANCE:FILM 07 is a week long celebration of the fabulous relationship between the two art forms with a programme of features, shorts, events and dance workshops. Opening with Gene Kelly’s On the Town and closing with the film everyone loves, Dirty Dancing, you will be introduced throughout the week to many different aspects of dance on film.  You will see the Hollywood musical, the education project, discover a new dance style, watch the critically acclaimed, learn about the history of breakdance and have the time of your life! It’s not all about big blockbusters nor is it all about high art, it’s about dance and film and all its many facets. You will also get to check out two programmes of dance shorts, one from Scotland and one from beyond.

DANCE:FILM 07 wants you to discover films that did not get general cinematic releases, films you may have missed or films that you may never have seen on the Filmhouse big screen.

DANCE:FILM 07 will give you a chance to do just that with its Dirty Dancing Mambo workshops, The Turning Point Ballet Workshops, Carmen Flamenco workshop and a Breakdance jam session, all in the award winning studios at Dance Base. Tickets for the workshops can be purchased in advance from the Dance Base Box Office in 0131 225 5525 as well as on the door. If you have been to the Filmhouse to watch a film after 1 September 2007, you can take your ticket stub to the Dance Base Box Office and get a concession price ticket to any of the DANCE:FILM 07 workshops or events. If you have a Dance Base Term Card or Dance Card, you will be entitled to a concession price ticket to any of the films on presentation of the card when booking at Filmhouse. (Please note that this does not apply to the Festival pass). Further details can be found on the Dance Film Scotland website.

Perhaps you’ve wondered about making dance films. Are you a dance artist wanting to make a film? Or a filmmaker wanting to find out more about dance? Let internationally renowned dance filmmaker Katrina McPherson tell you all about it in her Energising Sculptures: Dance on Film lecture.

DANCE:FILM 07 is all about bringing together two artforms and two audiences and hopefully in the process, finding a whole new hybrid audience! So go along and discover films at the Filmhouse and dance your heart out in Dance Base at DANCE:FILM 07!
